MJF 3D Printing Materials (Multi Jet Fusion)
Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) is a cutting-edge powder bed fusion technology that produces functional nylon parts with superior density and surface quality compared to traditional SLS. Instead of using a laser, MJF applies a fusing agent and detailing agent over the powder bed, followed by infrared heating. At JUCHENG, we utilize industrial MJF systems to bridge the gap between prototyping and mass production. We specialize in processing MJF PA12 and Glass Bead Reinforced PA12, delivering parts that are watertight, isotropic, and robust enough for end-use automotive, industrial, and consumer applications.
JUCHENG's MJF Production Capabilities
MJF is our go-to technology for high-volume, low-cost additive manufacturing:
- Batch Manufacturing: MJF's fast printing speed allows us to produce hundreds or thousands of nylon parts in a single build cycle, offering a cost-effective alternative to injection molding for short runs.
- Isotropic Strength: Our MJF parts exhibit nearly equal strength in the Z-axis as in the X and Y axes, making them reliable for load-bearing mechanical components.
- Watertight Performance: Due to the fusing process, MJF parts are denser and non-porous, ideal for fluid handling systems and air-tight enclosures.
- Surface Finishing: The raw "Grey" MJF parts can be uneven in color. We provide standard Black Dyeing (the industry standard finish) and Vapor Smoothing to create a sealed, injection-mold-like surface.
Advantages of MJF 3D Printing Materials
| Advantage | Detailed Description | Key Benefit |
| Superior Density & Strength | Produces high-density, non-porous parts without the internal voids often found in FDM or SLS. | Parts are watertight and airtight; excellent for fluid tanks and pneumatic systems. |
| Isotropic Properties | Mechanical properties are consistent in all directions (X, Y, and Z). | Ensures consistent performance for functional clips, hinges, and structural brackets. |
| High Surface Detail | The "Detailing Agent" ensures sharp edges and fine textures superior to SLS. | Suitable for visible consumer parts and complex textures. |
| Fast Production Speed | Prints entire layers simultaneously rather than tracing with a laser. | Rapid turnaround for large batches of small components. |
| Chemical Resistance | MJF Nylon PA12 offers excellent resistance to oils, greases, aliphatics, and alkalis. | Reliable for automotive under-hood and industrial machinery environments. |
Technical Parameters & Material Properties
We offer the two most critical materials for the MJF platform:
| Grade Category | Detailed Characteristics | Ideal Applications |
| MJF PA 12 (Nylon 12) | A robust thermoplastic with balanced properties. High density, fine detail resolution, and excellent chemical resistance. Raw parts are matte grey; typically dyed black. Performance: Strong, slightly flexible, functional. | Functional prototypes, complex ductwork, fluid reservoirs, connectors, drone parts, housings. |
| MJF PA 12 Glass Beads (GB) | PA12 reinforced with 40% glass beads. Significantly higher stiffness (modulus) and dimensional stability than standard PA12. Reduced warpage. Performance: Stiff, rigid, heat resistant. | Stiff housings, fixtures, tooling, structural brackets, parts requiring high assembly accuracy. |
| MJF PA 11 (Nylon 11) | Derived from renewable sources (castor oil). Higher ductility and impact resistance than PA12. Enhanced elongation at break. Performance: Impact resistant, flexible. | Snap-fits, living hinges, interior automotive components, insoles, crash-relevant parts. |
MJF Printing Guidelines & Design Tips
- Color & Finish: Raw MJF parts come out of the printer in a "Natural Grey" which can look blotchy. We highly recommend Dyeing Black for a uniform, professional appearance.
- Wall Thickness: Minimum recommended wall thickness is 0.8mm. Thin walls are stronger in MJF than SLS due to the detailing agent.
- Hollowing: Large solid parts should be hollowed to reduce thermal build-up (warping) and cost. Drain holes are required to remove unfused powder.
- Clearance: For moving assemblies, maintain a clearance of at least 0.4mm - 0.5mm to prevent parts from fusing.
Application Scenarios
- Automotive: Watertight cooling ducts, sensor mounts, interior clips, fluid connectors.
- Robotics: Lightweight drone frames, grippers, cable management clips.
- Medical: Prosthetics, orthotics (due to skin contact safety of finished PA12), surgical guides.
- Industrial: Manufacturing aids, jigs, fixtures, low-volume equipment housings.
