Alloy Aluminum 6060 CNC Machining Material
Often overshadowed by its sibling 6063, Aluminum Alloy 6060 is a hidden gem for applications requiring the ultimate balance of formability and surface aesthetics. It is a heat-treatable alloy with slightly lower strength than 6063 but superior extrudability, allowing for the creation of extremely complex cross-sections. At JUCHENG, we utilize 6060 primarily for cosmetic CNC machined parts and post-machining of complex extruded profiles. Its fine grain structure ensures that after anodizing, the surface is uniform, vibrant, and free from structural streaks, making it the preferred choice for high-end furniture, lighting, and architectural design.

JUCHENG's 6060 Machining Capabilities
Machining softer alloys like 6060 requires delicate handling to maintain precision. We offer:
- Profile Machining: We specialize in CNC machining features (holes, slots, notches) into complex 6060 pre-extruded shapes without deforming the thin walls.
- Soft-Touch Clamping: Since 6060 is softer than 6061, we use custom polymer soft jaws and vacuum fixtures to secure parts, preventing clamping marks on cosmetic surfaces.
- High-Gloss Finishing: Our finishing team can polish 6060 to a mirror finish before anodizing, creating a "chrome-like" appearance suitable for luxury goods.
- Batch Color Consistency: We tightly control the anodizing parameters for 6060 batches to ensure furniture and lighting components match perfectly in color.
Advantages of CNC Machining 6060
| Advantage | Detailed Description | Key Benefit |
| Top-Tier Anodizing | Responds exceptionally well to chemical brightening and coloring. | Produces the most vivid, satin, or glossy finishes of any 6000-series alloy. |
| Superior Formability | High ductility allows it to be bent or shaped easily even in T4 temper. | Ideal for parts that are machined and then bent into complex curves. |
| Complex Geometries | The material flows well (if extruded) or machines cleanly with sharp tools. | Enables the production of thin-walled, intricate designs and heat sinks. |
| Corrosion Resistance | Excellent resistance to weathering and atmospheric attack. | Reliable for window frames, door hardware, and outdoor lighting. |
| Weldability | Good weldability for all standard welding methods. | Suitable for decorative frames requiring seamless welded joints. |
Technical Parameters & Material Standards
We process 6060 to meet specific European and International standards:
| Grade Category | Specification | Characteristics & Ideal Uses |
| EN AW-6060 | AlMgSi | The European standard designation. Medium strength, high corrosion resistance. Slightly softer than 6063. Uses: Intricate architectural sections, lighting tracks, furniture framing. |
| DIN 3.3206 | AlMgSi0.5 | German standard. Known for tight composition limits to ensure consistent anodizing response. Uses: High-quality decorative trim, automotive interior accents. |
| Temper T66 | Special Heat Treatment | Cooled from an elevated temperature shaping process and artificially aged. Offers higher mechanical properties than standard T6. Uses: Structural components where slightly higher strength is needed. |
CNC Machining Guidelines for 6060
- Chip Evacuation: 6060 is relatively soft and "gummy." It produces long, continuous chips. We use specialized chip-breaking end mills to prevent wrapping.
- Cutting Speeds: High spindle speeds (RPM) are essential to shear the metal cleanly rather than tearing it, ensuring a low surface roughness (Ra).
- Deburring: Burrs on 6060 can be pliable and hard to snap off. We use cryogenic deburring or fine abrasive tumbling to remove them without damaging the part geometry.
- Lubrication: Oil-mist or flood coolant is mandatory to prevent the soft aluminum from building up on the tool edge (BUE).
Application Scenarios
- Interior Design: Custom door handles, curtain rails, picture frames, furniture legs.
- Lighting: LED cooling profiles, lamp shades, spotlight housings.
- Automotive: Interior decorative trim, roof rails, window surrounds.
- Architecture: Complex window sections, sunshades, fencing components.
- Electronics: Heat sinks with complex fin shapes that require high thermal efficiency.
