PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) CNC Machining Material
PBT (Polybutylene Terephthalate) is a semi-crystalline engineering thermoplastic widely used in the electrical and electronics industries. It is known for its excellent electrical insulating properties, mechanical strength, and heat resistance. Unlike Nylon, PBT absorbs very little moisture, ensuring dimensional stability in humid environments. At JUCHENG, we provide PBT CNC machining services for clients requiring precise, rigid components for automotive electronics, connectors, and household appliances. We machine both standard and glass-filled PBT grades to tight tolerances.

JUCHENG's PBT Machining Capabilities
Precision is key when machining electronic components. JUCHENG delivers:
- Tight Tolerances: Thanks to PBT’s stability, we can achieve tolerances of +/- 0.02mm for complex connector housings.
- Complex Geometries: Our 5-axis CNC centers can machine intricate features, snap-fits, and thin walls required in electronic assemblies.
- Material Sourcing: We source high-quality PBT stock from trusted brands like Valox® and Crastin®.
- Clean Production: We ensure parts are free from oil and contaminants, ready for electronic assembly.
Advantages of CNC Machining PBT
Excellent Electrical Properties
| Advantage | Detailed Description | Key Benefit |
| Excellent Electrical Properties | High dielectric strength and volume resistivity. Resistant to tracking and arcing. | The standard choice for insulators, switches, and connectors. |
| Dimensional Stability | Low moisture absorption (unlike Nylon) and low thermal expansion. | Maintains shape and electrical performance in humid or changing environments. |
| High Stiffness & Strength | Hard and rigid, especially when reinforced with glass fibers. | Suitable for structural housings and snap-fit assemblies that need to hold form. |
| Chemical Resistance | Resistant to solvents, greases, oils, and automotive fluids. | Ideal for under-the-hood automotive applications. |
| Heat Resistance | Good short-term thermal resistance (up to 150°C for GF grades). | Can withstand soldering heat excursions and engine bay temperatures. |
Technical Parameters & Material Properties
We offer standard and reinforced PBT grades:
| Grade Category | Detailed Characteristics | Ideal Applications |
| Standard PBT (Unfilled) | Provides a good balance of stiffness, toughness, and electrical insulation. It has a smooth surface finish and causes less tool wear than glass-filled grades. | Electrical connectors, switch components, valve bodies, keyboard keys. |
| Glass-Filled PBT (GF30) | Reinforced with 30% glass fibers. Significantly increases tensile strength, stiffness, and heat distortion temperature. More brittle and abrasive to machine tools. | Structural automotive housings, coil bobbins, pump housings, motor components. |
| Flame Retardant PBT | Formulated to meet UL94 V-0 flammability standards. Essential for safety-critical electronic parts. | Power distribution components, relay housings, circuit breakers. |
CNC Machining Guidelines for PBT
- Tool Wear: Glass-filled PBT is abrasive. We use carbide or diamond-coated tools to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish.
- Brittleness: PBT (especially GF grades) can be notch-sensitive. We advise designing with generous radii instead of sharp corners to prevent cracking during machining or use.
- Coolant: Water-soluble coolants are used to prevent overheating and improve surface finish.
- Stress: Annealing may be required for complex parts with tight tolerances to relieve machining stresses.
Application Scenarios
- Automotive Electronics: Sensor housings, fuse boxes, ignition system components, connectors.
- Electrical Industry: Circuit breakers, relay bases, coil bobbins, terminal blocks.
- Consumer Appliances: Toaster housings, vacuum cleaner parts, iron handles.
- Industrial: Pump impellers, valve bodies, water meter components.
