Aluminum Alloy Sheet Metal Fabrication Material
Aluminum alloy is the premier choice in sheet metal fabrication for lightweight, high-strength, and corrosion-resistant components. From aerospace avionics boxes to automotive body panels, aluminum offers the perfect balance of formability and structural integrity. At JUCHENG, we position ourselves as a comprehensive one-stop manufacturing factory. We stock a vast inventory of aluminum sheets ranging from pure aluminum (1000 series) to structural alloys (6000 series). Combined with our advanced fiber laser cutting, precision CNC bending, and in-house anodizing capabilities, we deliver finished aluminum parts that meet the rigorous demands of the electronics, automotive, and instrumentation industries.
Aluminum Alloy Sheet Metal Fabrication
JUCHENG's Aluminum Fabrication Capabilities
Processing aluminum sheet metal requires specific expertise to handle its reflectivity and ductility. JUCHENG offers:
- Advanced Laser Cutting: Aluminum reflects laser beams. We utilize high-power Fiber Lasers with nitrogen assist gas to produce clean, oxide-free edges on sheets up to 10mm thick, eliminating the need for secondary deburring.
- Crack-Free Bending: Different alloys behave differently under stress. Our engineers carefully select bend radii based on the material grade (e.g., using larger radii for 6061-T6) and grain direction to ensure parts form perfectly without cracking.
- Surface Finishing Excellence: We specialize in post-fabrication finishes. Our Anodizing (Clear/Black/Color), Chromate Conversion (Alodine), and Powder Coating services ensure your panels and chassis have both protection and premium aesthetics.
- Assembly & Welding: We offer expert TIG/MIG welding for aluminum structures and install PEM fasteners (nuts/studs) for electronic enclosures.
Advantages of Sheet Metal Aluminum
| Advantage | Detailed Description | Key Benefit |
| Lightweight Strength | Aluminum is approximately 1/3 the weight of steel but offers high strength-to-weight ratios, especially in 6000 series alloys. | Critical for reducing weight in automotive body structures and aerospace enclosures. |
| Excellent Corrosion Resistance | Naturally forms a protective oxide layer. 5000 series alloys offer exceptional resistance to saltwater and atmospheric conditions. | Ideal for outdoor cabinets, marine hardware, and exposed instrumentation panels. |
| Superior Formability | Grades like 5052 and 3003 are highly ductile, allowing for complex bending, deep drawing, and hemming. | Enables the creation of intricate chassis designs and seamless covers without tearing. |
| Electrical & Thermal Conductivity | Good conductor of heat and electricity (Pure aluminum 1060 is best). | Perfect for electronic heat dissipation panels, EMI shielding, and battery enclosures. |
| Recyclability | 100% recyclable with high scrap value. | Supports sustainable manufacturing practices. |
Technical Parameters & Material Properties
We cover the complete spectrum of aluminum sheet grades to ensure we have the right material for any application:
| Grade Category | Specific Models | Characteristics | Ideal Uses |
| 5000 Series (The Sheet Metal King) | 5052 | The most widely used alloy for sheet metal. Highest strength of the non-heat-treatable grades. Excellent fatigue strength and corrosion resistance (Marine grade). Bends easily without cracking. | Precision chassis, electronic cabinets, fuel tanks, marine parts. |
| 6000 Series (Structural) | 6061-T6 / 6063 | Heat-treatable structural alloys. 6061 is strong but brittle during tight bending (requires large radius). 6063 is excellent for cosmetic panels and extrusions. | Structural brackets, automotive frames, heavy-duty base plates, cosmetic front panels. |
| 3000 Series (General Purpose) | 3003 | Alloyed with manganese. 20% stronger than 1100 series. Very good workability and weldability. Moderate strength. | Chemical equipment, general sheet metal parts, cooking utensils, decorative trim. |
| 1000 Series (Pure Aluminum) | 1060 / 1010 | 99.6% pure aluminum. Extremely soft and ductile. Highest thermal and electrical conductivity. Low mechanical strength. | Heat shields, electrical busbars, chemical tanks, reflector plates, deep-drawn parts. |
Fabrication Guidelines for Aluminum Sheet
- Bending Radius:
6061-T6: Prone to cracking. We recommend a minimum bend radius of 2-3x thickness or annealing the bend line.
- Grain Direction: Aluminum sheet has a "grain" from rolling. For critical structural bends, we orient the bend line across the grain (perpendicular) to maximize strength and prevent cracking.
- Welding: We use AC TIG welding for thin sheets to break the oxide layer without burning through the material. 5052 and 3003 are excellent for welding; 6061 requires post-weld heat treatment considerations.
- Surface Protection: Aluminum scratches easily during handling. We leave the PVC protective film on the sheet during laser cutting and forming, removing it only at the final inspection stage.
Application Scenarios
- Electronics: Server racks, computer chassis, power supply enclosures, heat dissipation panels.
- Automotive: Body panels (5052), structural reinforcement parts (6061), heat shields (1060).
- Instrumentation: Control panel faceplates, meter housings, bezel frames.
- Industrial: Chemical storage tanks, machine guards, HVAC ductwork components.
- Aerospace: Avionics enclosures, interior brackets, non-structural covers.
