Axson PX 225 / PX 225L - Vacuum Casting ABS Material
Axson PX 225 / PX 225L is the go-to material for making super clear, high-quality prototypes using vacuum casting. It's perfect for making see-through parts that need to look professional and be scratch-resistant.
Axson PX 225 / PX 225L
Basic Characteristics
- What is it? It's a two-part liquid plastic (resin) that you mix together. It then hardens into a super clear, solid piece, like a window or a glasses lens.
- The Difference: PX 225L is just a lower-viscosity version of PX 225. "Viscosity" means how easily it pours. Think of honey (high viscosity) versus water (low viscosity). PX 225L is like water, so it can flow into every tiny detail of a mold more easily.
- Key Superpower: Its amazing clarity. It makes parts that are very transparent and don't yellow easily over time. It's also pretty tough and resistant to scratches.

VACUUM CASTING PROCESSING CONDITIONS
- Heat both parts (isocyanate and polyol) at 23°C in case of storage at low temperature.
- Important : Shake vigorously part A before each weighing.
- Weigh the both parts.
- After degasing for 10 minutes under vacuum mix for
- 1 minute with PX 245
- 2 minutes with PX 245/L
- Cast under vacuum in a silicone mold, previously heated at 70°C.
- Demold after 30 minutes minimum at 70°C (allow the part to cool down before demolding).
HANDLING PRECAUTIONS

Shelf life is 6 months in a dry place and in original unopened containers at a temperature between 15 and 25° C. Any open can must be tightly closed under dry nitrogen.
Application Scenarios & Fields
This material is used whenever you need a clear prototype or a small batch of clear parts. Think of things like:
- Consumer Electronics: Clear covers for gadgets, prototype light covers, buttons.
- Automotive: Lens covers for interior lights, clear dials and indicators.
- Medical: Housings for devices that need to be seen through, models of organs or body parts for teaching.
- General Prototyping: Any model where you need to see the inside workings, like a clear housing for a robot's gears.
Vacuum Casting Process Adaptability:
- Perfect Match: This material was made for vacuum casting!
- How it works: A silicone mold is made of the original object. The two liquids are mixed, and then the air is sucked out (vacuumed) to remove any bubbles. The liquid is then poured into the mold. Because PX 225L is so thin, it perfectly copies even the most complex shapes without trapping air bubbles, which is crucial for clear parts.
Advantages:
Super Clear: Makes parts that look like they came from a real factory.
Scratch-Resistant: The surface is hard and doesn't get scratched easily.
Stays Clear: It resists turning yellow, so it stays looking good.
Fine Details: It captures every little detail from the silicone mold.

Limitations:
- Not for High Heat: You wouldn't want to use it for a car's headlight that gets super hot. It can handle warm temperatures but not extreme heat.
- UV Sensitivity: If left in direct sunlight for a very long time, it can eventually start to degrade, just like most plastics.
- Mold Limits: You can only make about 15-20 parts from one silicone mold before you need to make a new one.
Manufacturers
This material is made by a company called ELANTAS PDG. They bought the original company, Axson, so you might still hear it called "Axson," but its official name now is ELANTAS PX 225 / PX 225L.
Common Alternative Materials:
Other materials can make clear parts, but they have different strengths:
- Standard Clear Resins: Other brands like Smooth-On (Crystal Clear®) or Polytek (EasyFlo® 60) make similar clear liquids. They are good, but might not be as scratch-resistant or stay as clear as long as PX 225.
- 3D Printing Resins: You can 3D print clear parts, but they are often not as perfectly clear and can be more brittle.
- Machined Acrylic (PMMA): You can cut and shape a solid block of clear acrylic. This is great for one-off simple parts but is expensive and hard for complex shapes.
